Crab Pattern
The most extreme harmonic pattern: D extends to a 161.8% XA projection, marking deep reversal zones at market extremes.
Formula
AB = 38.2%–61.8% of XA; BC = 38.2%–88.6% of AB; CD = 161.8% of XA
The Crab Pattern, also by Scott Carney, has the furthest extension of all harmonic patterns. Point D reaches 161.8% of the XA leg — a level associated with price exhaustion and sharp reversals from climactic moves.
The PRZ is tight but the risk is higher because of the extension. A stop placed beyond D is relatively far from entry. The 161.8% extension makes it ideal for catching trend endings after overextended impulse moves.
- AB = 38.2%–61.8% retracement of XA
- BC = 38.2%–88.6% of AB
- CD = 161.8% extension of XA
