Abandoned Baby

A rare three-candle reversal: a trend candle, then a Doji that gaps away from it on both sides, then a reversal candle — the Doji is completely isolated.

Card view

The Abandoned Baby is the rarest and most powerful of the star reversal patterns. It requires a gap on both sides of the middle candle (the "baby"), meaning the star's wicks do not overlap with the prior or subsequent candle at all — it is completely isolated.

Bullish version: a bearish trend candle, then a gap-down Doji with no shadow overlap, then a gap-up bullish candle that closes well into the first candle. Bearish version is the mirror. The isolation of the Doji shows an extreme moment of uncertainty; the subsequent gap in the opposite direction shows a violent shift in control. It is considered more significant than a standard Morning/Evening Star because of the gap requirement.
